MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President.  MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.

Position Salary Range: $10,854 - $16,282 per month

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $10,854 - $12,300 per month.

Salary is commensurate with experience.

About the Department/Position:

Under the administrative direction of the Associate Vice President of Health & Well-Being, the Director of Health, Wellness & Recreation Center provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the Department of Health, Wellness & Recreation. This role is responsible for the development, integration, and delivery of collaborative programs and services within the new Health, Wellness & Recreation Center, opening in 2026.

Serving as the primary leader for both the shared facility and recreation programs, the Director ensures a holistic, wellness-centered approach to operations and programming. Through strong cross-campus partnerships, the Director fosters an inclusive environment that promotes health, engagement, and community. This position plays a critical role in aligning departmental goals with institutional priorities, optimizing shared space utilization, and delivering innovative, student-focused experiences.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct a comprehensive campus recreation department under the Health and Well-Being functional team.
  • Lead the development and implementation of programs, policies, and marketing strategies that support the department’s mission.
  • Implement policies and procedures that support a wellness-focused operational model.
  • Represent the department on university committees and work teams
  • Provide leadership and support to two direct and 4 indirect reports across multiple functional areas.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Professionals at this level usually have 8+ years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree. A minimum of four (4) years of managerial experience required. 5 years of previous recreation programming and/or operations experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of principles and standard practices in collegiate health, wellness, and recreation management.
  • Knowledge of program development and assessment methods, including learning outcome design and data driven decision making.
  • Knowledge of budget development, financial management, and resource allocation in a multi program environment.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and compliance standards applicable to recreation and wellness operations (e.g., ADA, OSHA, Title IX).
  • Ability to lead a multi-functional department with diverse service areas under a unified wellness framework.
  • Ability to integrate health, wellness, and recreation services into campus life in ways that engage a wide range of students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field.
  • Higher education experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervision experience.
